This just absolutely fascinates me. The patterns are made by using different pendulum lengths. In the project link below, 9 pendulums range from 20.5 cm to 35.7 cm. The pendulum ensemble cycles through a number of patterns of 30 seconds. Each pendulum completes a different number of swings but all of them come back to home at exactly 30 seconds. For example, the longest pendulum cycles through 25 swings within 30 seconds while the shortest pendulum cycles through 33 swings in 30 seconds.
